Multicoloured Keyboard

One day Chris asked me: "Daddy, what does it feel to be able to play the piano?" So I answered: "Well, you see the big white keys and the small black keys? They may be only two colours, but when you gently slide your fingers up and down the keyboard, they make rainbow music. Do you know what rainbow music is?" Chris looked flabbergasted. After a few seconds he realized he had dropped his jaw and was gazing at the keys. He shook his head and turned to me with a whispered: "No." "Rainbow music brings millions of colours to your mind. You've heard rainbow music before, haven't you?" "Yes!" he jumped. "Yes, I hear you play it all the time, Daddy. I love rainbow music." "Son, that's very nice. Thank you." "Why?" He was only 5, what could he understand about compliments?! “Never mind. Just listen.” I took a mild breath, closed my eyes for a second and pressed my fingertips on the keys to make a chord. They say the do-mi-so do-mi-so is a happy tune because it makes you feel good. I can confirm it. As I continued playing the memorized key sequence the soothing sounds would come one after the other. So simply. It was like the piano was playing on its own and I was merely the maestro, or maybe just a battery. “But you don’t have the music papers on the stand!” “That’s right. That’s because I don’t like reading music. I prefer to memorize it, so I can play with my eyes closed and so it flows more naturally. Also, I can cheat and give the song my special touch, so that it belongs to me only.” It’s called the artist’s selfishness.
